A Close Shave with Essential Oils

I’m not one who enjoys shaving, in fact I disliked it altogether. It seemed to me to be a waste of time and resources. However, my girlfriend can’t handle my razor stubble on her sensitive skin so I have grown a beard, yet society dictates that men be clean shaven. To strike a middle ground I bought an electric beard trimmer to keep it trimmed close and shave my neck.

When I joined the military just out of high school I barely had peach fuzz, but was forced to shave anyway. I bought a self heating shaving cream and became delighted with the warm sensation - just like what you feel when a barber lathers the back of your neck to use a razor to trim the neck line.

After I received my discharge from the military I started to shave in the shower as a way to save time and found it gave good results - when I shaved once a week. I didn’t need to shave more often than that until I was well into my 30’s.

Just before I met my girlfriend I was needing to shave every 2 or three days. Then I met my girlfriend and the need to keep the razor stubble at bay became quite urgent. That’s when I decided to grow the beard - the more I tried to keep the stubble away the more it was there - a losing battle.

I tried all kinds of shaving creams, soaps and razors but nothing seemed to work.

One day a few years back I decided to try some of Young Living’s bath soap as a shaving cream and it was fantastic. I still shave while in the shower as that helps soften the hair. I shampoo my hair, beard and neck first. Second I bathe my body which gives the warm water time to work on my beard. I then grab the bar of soap, rub it around my neck and using a twin blade razor shave.

The result? Clean as a whistle and almost as smooth as silk! I just need to get a fog free mirror for the shower so I get it all as I tend to miss some around my Adam’s Apple. An added benefit with the soap is that when you bathe with it you feel clean and will still feel clean at the end of the day.

My favorite is the Rosewood-Geranium soap, unfortunately they discontinued it - bummer - but the others work just as good. I just preferred the scent. Currently I am using Melaleuca-Geranium.

The scented bath soaps we carry that are great for shaving include:

  • Melaleuca-Geranium,
  • Lavender-Rosewood,
  • Lemon-Sandalwood,
  • Morning Start,
  • Peppermint-Cedarwood,
  • Sacred Mountain,
  • Thieves
  • Valor
